As an example for the next generation, this is a snapshot of a fan chart for Mary (Mattimore) Elwell. The fan view for family trees shows a root person in the center circle (in this case, Mary Mattimore) and her ancestors fanning out from there. Her paternal side is on the left and her maternal side on the right. This chart would be the same for Mary’s siblings — Joe, Richard, Dan and Hank.
